Obituary for Lawrence Joseph Kane
Lawrence Joseph Kane, 80, 2180 Old Route 30, Orrtanna, PA died October 16, 2016 peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at his home after a recent cancer diagnosis.
He was born July 2, 1936 in Orrtanna, PA the son of the late Joseph and Miriam Hall Kane. Larry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 61 years, Barbara Weishaar Kane.
Mr. Kane was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He was a 1954 graduate of Gettysburg High School. After high school he was employed for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Forestry in the Mt. Alto area. He then was employed by his father-in-law at Weishaar Brothers in Gettysburg. But for over 30 years he was affectionately known in Adams County and the surrounding areas as “Larry the Lance Man”. He was a member of the Gettysburg Elks Club, the Gettysburg Moose, and the Gettysburg American Legion. Larry enjoyed tennis, golf, the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Orioles and Penn State football. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially activities of his children, grandchildren and most recently great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by a daughter, Lynn Murray and her husband Larry of Fayetteville, PA, a son, Brian Kane and his wife Kathy of Richmond, VA, five grandchildren; John (Rebecca) Murray and, Kane (Lauren) Murray, Kadi Murray, Matthew Kane, Jennifer (Ellis) Domenech, four great grandchildren; Abigail Murray, Ryan Murray, Jack Murray and Fiona Murray, two brothers, G. Edward Kane of Fairfield, PA. and Dennis Kane of Warren, OH. He was predeceased by a brother, Kermit Kane.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 20th at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Orrtanna with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro celebrant. Immediately following the Mass interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg Wednesday, October 19th evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 20th morning at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass.
