Dr. Linda Resmini Handy passed away peacefully September 10, 2022 at Heartfields in Easton, MD at the age of 76.
Dr. Handy was the beloved mother of Donald F. Handy Jr. and his wife Lisa of Easton, MD and Christian A. Handy and his wife Kelly of St. Michaels, MD. She was the devoted, adoring grandmother to Chase, Ashley and Reagan Handy. She was born on May 23, 1946 and predeceased by her parents Evo and Viola (Renzi) Resmini, her brother Stephen Resmini and Donald F. Handy, her husband of 30 years. She was a loving sister to her brother Edward Resmini and a doting aunt and cousin to many.
Linda was a 1964 graduate of Cranston High School East and was crowned Miss Cranston at 18, showcasing her beautiful singing talents. She was a graduate of Chamberlayne College, The University of Maryland-College Park and held post graduate degrees in Psychology and Education and obtained her Ph.D in Counseling Psychology.
Dr. Handy was a founding Board Member of The McLean School of Maryland where she also served as Associate Director of Development, Director of Admission and Financial Aid and as Dean of Students. From 2001 to 2010, she taught in the Special Education, Reading, Guidance and Counseling Master of Education programs at Bowie State University. Dr. Handy was a certified Catechist who previously taught religion for many years at Woods Academy and Saint Martin’s Church. Up until she fell ill in 2020, she was the dedicated Director of Guidance and Counseling at Woods Academy in Bethesda. She also continued to practice as a licensed Child and Adolescent therapist and a National Board Certified Counselor in her spare time.
Linda took much pride in her family and spent a lot of her time cooking Italian meals, reading, writing articles for various media outlets, spending time with her numerous close friends, had an affinity for watching Bravo TV to relax and started each day with a Senior Coca Cola from McDonalds. She enjoyed listening to Andrea Bocelli, spending days with her grandkids and attending their various events, long drives, and visiting the Grotto to pray. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Stroke Association (https://www.stroke.org).
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM from St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church, Emmitsburg, MD with Fr. Andres Ayala celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Entombment in Mount Saint Mary’s Cemetery take place following the Mass.
