Obituary for Lloyd S. Hawbaker
Lloyd Seibert Hawbaker, 92, of Gettysburg, PA entered into God’s Eternal Care, on Sunday, April 24, 2016 after suffering several years with congestive heart failure.
Born March 1, 1924 in Greencastle, PA, he was the youngest child of the late Charles Thomas & Clemma Elizabeth (Coldsmith) Hawbaker. Lloyd was married for sixty years to the late Mary Louise (Sanders) Hawbaker, the love of his life, who passed away on April 17, 2010. They are together again, always and forever. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Stanley, George, Howard and Lyman Hawbaker and his sisters: Florene Stumbaugh, Anna Mary Myers, Margaret Nett and Violet Schwartz.
He proudly served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1943-1945 and was employed for many years by Maitland Brothers and PennDOT. He was a member of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Gettysburg American Legion Post #202 and VFW Post #15. His greatest passion in life was looking forward every spring to planting his garden which he was so proud of and which he shared with his many friends.
Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Carol Kelley and husband Steve of Gettysburg and two sons: L. Stephen Hawbaker of Biglerville, PA and Dennis Hawbaker and his wife Lisa of Gettysburg, eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Chenault, Scott Kelley, Gregg Kelley, Allison Kelley, Tamarah Bair, Amy Vail, Krista Hawbaker, Kelsey Hawbaker, Nathan Hawbaker, Jason Hawbaker and Rachel Palmer. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, especially John Hawbaker, Marshall Hawbaker and Michael Hawbaker, as well as a brother-in-law, Robert J. Sanders of Lancaster, PA He had many dear friends including; Mae (and the late Frederic) Kuntz, Holly & Mike Cookerly, Roy Heintzleman and George Lambert. Lloyd leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Ginger, who accompanied him on all his many scooter rides.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, 30 West High St., Gettysburg with his Pastor, Rev. Jay Zimmerman, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. A viewing will be held on Thursday, at the church from 1-2 p.m.
