Obituary for M. Louise Scarpate
M. Louise Scarpate, 94, of Melbourne (Suntree), Florida and formally of Arendtsville, PA, and Milltown, NJ was called home on August 17, 2018.

Mrs. Scarpate was born on November 1, 1923 in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Charles C. and Myrtle C. (Hardy) Tappen. Louise was a graduate of Highland Park High School and was first employed as a teletype operator at the Raritan Arsenal, Fords, NJ. It was there that she met her husband, George. Louise also served as an assistant postmistress at the Arendtsville Post Office. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Arendtsville, was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary, Arendtsville Fire Company, and assisted the Boy and Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Scarpate was predeceased by her loving husband, George of 65 years, her sister, Beverly, and a daughter-in-law, Laura. She is survived by another sister, Doris in Hawaii. She is also survived by two children, Jerry of Suntree and Jill Cramer (Frank), of York, PA. Louise is survived by four grandsons, Jason Scarpate (Lindsay), Valdosta, GA; Brian Cramer, Denver, CO; LtCol (Dr.) Jeremy Scarpate (Melissa), Helotes, TX; and Steven Cramer, Brooklyn, NY. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren: Caroline, John, Julia, Laura, Mason, and Jackson Scarpate. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Hawaii.

Louise was a loving mother, wife, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose positive outlook on life had a profound impact on all. Family was always her #1 priority. She was an artist who left her legacy in her paintings, quilts, and crafts. Louise was proud of her English and American ancestry and relished the fact that she had four relatives on the Mayflower and many who fought in the American Revolution.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Zion United Church of Christ, Arendtsville, PA at 11:00 AM on October 20, 2018 with Pastor Kim Blocher officiating. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Viera, FL and Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, PA are handling the funeral arrangements. The family would like to extend thanks to Shea (her “adopted daughter”), Joyce of Caregiver’s Heart and Bonnie, Colette, Beatrice, and Marsha at Brennity Assisted Living, Viera, FL and especially, Helen, a niece, for the wonderful care they provided. They would also like to thank Health First Hospice for their guidance and assistance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, 3 Gettysburg St., Arendtsville, PA. 17307.

Louise often gazed at the stars in the sky and the following expresses her thoughts about those celestial bodies:

Perhaps they are not stars
but rather openings in Heaven
where the love of our lost one
shine down to let us know they are happy
