Obituary for Madeline "Matts" Orndorff
Madeline “Matts” Christinia (Plunkert) Orndorff, 88, a longtime resident of Adams County, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home, Gettysburg.
Born October 13, 1929 in Hanover, PA she was the daughter of the late Cleason H. and Alta V. (Ohler) Plunkert. She was the wife of the late John B. Orndorff, Sr. who died September 21, 1981.
Mrs. Orndorff was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg since 1950. She was a 1947 graduate of Littlestown High School, graduated from Garfield Memorial Hospital and a 1950 graduate of Wilson College in Washington, DC. She worked as a nurse at the Annie M. Warner Hospital from 1950 until 1976, then went on to be the 3-11 supervisor at Green Acres Nursing Home from 1982-1993. She belonged to many nursing and hospital related organizations throughout her career and was very dedicated to her nursing profession her entire life. Such as leading the Salvation Army League of Mercy, every year taking small gifts to all local homes in the area for Christmas, and treasurer and co-founder of the Adams County RN Association.
Madeline is survived by her two sons, John B. “Butch” Orndorff, Jr., of Raleigh, NC, Bryan K. Orndorff, of Woodbridge, VA, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Treva Shank, of Gettysburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael A. Orndorff, her sister, Virginia B. Weaver, and her two brothers, Herbert Plunkert and Romanus Plunkert.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Michael Allwein officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
