Obituary for Margaret L. "Peggy" Taughinbaugh
Margaret L. “Peggy” Taughinbaugh, 92, of Gettysburg, PA passed peacefully Friday night, September 15, 2017, at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.

Born May 23, 1925 in Mummasburg, Adams Co, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Leila M. (Rice) Kunkel. She was also the devoted, loving wife for 62 years to the late George W. Taughinbaugh, who died in 2007.

Mrs. Taughinbaugh was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Gettysburg, contributing her time and handmade crafts for their annual bazaars, acting as usher/ greeter, and many other positions within the church structure. Peggy was also well-known in the Gettysburg and surrounding areas due to her 40+ years selling real estate; many of those years were with Century 21 Neighborhood Realty, and prior to her health challenges and more recently, Prudential/ Berkshire Hathaway. Not only was Peggy working part-time doing something she loved into her advanced years, but always present at her grandchildren's various sporting and other events. She also enjoyed attending auctions, playing bingo, family trips to the beach, and shopping.

Peggy is survived by her five children, Joan Appler and her husband Douglas, of Abbottstown, PA, Diane Wisotzkey and her husband Joseph, of Gettysburg, PA, Deborah Altemose and her husband Thomas, of Gettysburg, PA, George A Taughinbaugh and his wife Diane K., of Biglerville, PA, Todd Taughinbaugh, of New Oxford, PA, nine grandchildren, Jennifer Myers, Allison Wagner, Amber Hummer, Charlie Altemose, Katie Thomas, Ashton Taughinbaugh, Tyrel Taughinbaugh, Rhett Taughinbaugh, Wyatt Taughinbaugh, and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister and brother, Betty J Kane and John C Kunkel.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Monahan Funeral Home ,125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. George Heberling officiating. Interment will be in the Greenmount Cemetery, Arendtsville, PA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday evening, September 19, 2017 at the funeral home, as well as from 10:00 AM until the time of services Wednesday morning.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331 or to Trinity UCC, 60 E. High St., Gettysburg, Pa 17325.

The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at the Brethren Home, as well as the VNA, for the excellent care given to Peggy during her illness.
