Obituary for Mark Joseph Nagengast
Mark Joseph James Nagengast, 72, of Carroll Valley, Pennsylvania, passed away at home surrounded by his family, Monday, November 2, 2020, after a long progressive illness.
He was born on January 6, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey. The son of the late Joseph J. and Anne S. (Mitchell) Nagengast. He resided in Westfield, New Jersey, until moving to Pennsylvania in 2007. Mark is survived by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Mary Catherine (Murphy).
A 1965 graduate of Bayonne High School, Mark graduated from Jersey City State College in 1969 with a BS in Chemistry. He pursued post-graduate studies at Seton Hall and Princeton University until being drafted into the United States Army.
While at Rona Pearl Laboratories, Mark revolutionized the process and development of pearlescence, replacing traditional materials with mica. Mark left Rona Pearl in 1986 as Director of Research and joined Intercos America Inc. as Vice President and General Manager until retiring for medical reasons.
Mark was a dedicated husband, father, and family man. A talented carpenter, he designed and constructed various decorative and functional pieces for homes and imaginative craft pieces for “Mickey’s Mark,” a side business shared with his wife.
In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by their three children: son Keith (wife Robin) of Trophy Club, Texas, son Brian (wife Jennifer) of Lambertville, New Jersey, daughter Beth Saba (husband Colin) of Ijamsville, Maryland, his nine grandchildren: Devin, Avery, Aiden, Kian, Ella, Graceyn, and Turner Nagengast, Sadie, and Colin Mark Saba, his brother, John Nagengast (wife Diane) of Woodbine, Maryland, brother-in-law Chet Milan of Brick Township, New Jersey, and sixteen nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved sister Virginia “Sis” Milan, father Joseph Nagengast, and mother Anne Nagengast (Mitchell).
A private viewing and service were held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Monahan Funeral Home.
