Obituary for Martha A. Jones
Martha A. Jones, 78, formerly of Gettysburg, PA died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Gettysburg Hospital.
She was born April 6, 1937 in Paterson, NJ the daughter of the late Ken and Mary White Sutphen.
Martha graduated from High School in New Jersey, and later from Hobart & William Smith College. She taught 3rd grade in New Jersey and then moved to Micronesia with her husband, where she helped start elementary schools and taught on several of the islands. After returning to the United States she earned a Master’s Degree from Millersville University and became a school psychologist. She worked for many years for Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 out of New Oxford, PA, serving several schools in the area. Martha was a former member of PSEA. She enjoyed reading, painting, and playing bridge but most of all she enjoyed time with her family.
Martha is survived by a daughter, Dana Newton and her husband, Gary, of Gettysburg, PA, a son, Blair Jones and his wife Marisela Funes Jones of Maine, four grandchildren; Kelsey and Lindsay Newton, and Arianna and Connor Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20th at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA at 3:00 PM. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or the American Cancer Society, 924 North Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
