Obituary for Mary Ann Leber
Mary Ann Leber passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 1, 2016. She was 90 years young.
Mary was born June 18, 1926 in East Orange New Jersey, the daughter of Guiseppe and Maria Antoinetta Custode of Italy. She is predeceased by her siblings Elizabeth DeMarco, Mike Custode and Frank Custode. Mary married her beloved husband, Conrad (Bud) Leber on December 2, 1950, who precede her in death on October 28, 1996.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Mary is survived by her two children, Bud Leber and his wife, Nancy, of Flemington, NJ and her daughter, Terry Frail and her husband, Kevin, of Gettysburg, PA. She was the loved “Nana” of 3 granddaughters, Erin Frail of Frederick, MD, Keri Frail of Gettysburg, and Kate Pope and husband, Alex, of Glenmont, NY and 3 great grandchildren, Olivia, Ainsley, and Jackson, brother-in-law Phillip Leber and his wife Ann of Stewart, FL and sister-in-law Florence Rossi of Cranberry, NJ.
Mary will be remembered by her family and friends for her unrelenting love and tenacious spirit. During football season, you could find Mary cheering for her Penn State Nittany Lions. Her hobbies included crafting, sewing, cooking, and baking. Mary enjoyed passing down her recipes to her granddaughters, and the most cherished and greatest memories were spent laughing in the kitchen. It was impossible to leave Mary’s house without a smile on your face, a heart full of joy, or an empty stomach.
Ever the example of a hard worker, Mary retired from Kings Supermarket in Livingston, NJ in 1984. She was a member of Local 464A United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW). After moving to Gettysburg, she continued her career working for the Gettysburg Area School District in Cafeteria Services and retired after almost 20 years. Her devotion for local politics began in New Jersey where she was an elected member of the Republican County Committee in Essex County, NJ. Continuing her dedication to her community, Mary was a distinguished member of the Adams County Republican Party and a founding member of the Adams County Republican Women. She served on the Republican Executive Board representing Adams County Republican Women and held the positions of second and third Vice President and Corresponding Secretary throughout her membership. As a member of the Adams County Social Club, Mary helped spearhead charitable giving initiatives, particularly to local nursing homes. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church in Orrtanna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 meeting at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg at 10:00 AM to proceed to St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Mass at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro, celebrant. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the Mass.
