
Obituary for Mary Anne "Hootie" George
Mary Anne “Hootie” George, 84 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at The Gardens in Gettysburg.
Born January 12, 1935 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas & Mary (Anthony) George.
Miss George was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Through her high school years she was a member of the cheerleading team. Following her graduation, she worked for the late Coach Henry Bream at the Gettysburg College Athletic Department for several years before accepting a position with Judge John MacPhail as his legal secretary. Miss George remained as Judge MacPhail’s secretary in the Adams County Courthouse and later when the Judge became a member of the Commonwealth Court in Harrisburg, PA. She was very involved with local community activities throughout her life and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Miss George enjoyed her time with family and friends and enjoyed dancing.
She is survived by her sister, Nickey George of Gettysburg and was predeceased by her sister, Stella George.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Fr. Andrew N. Tsikitas officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, and on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
