Obituary for Mary E. "Sis" Leedy
Mary E. “Sis” (Snider), Leedy, 87 of Gettysburg, PA died Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the York Hospital.
She was the wife of Robert G. Leedy, to whom she was married for 68 years. Mary was born February 22, 1930 in Gettysburg, the daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn Snider.
She was a 1948 graduate of Gettysburg High School. After graduating Sis worked for Gettysburg College, Mechanicsburg Naval Depot and was a secretary for Glenn E. Simpson & Son until her retirement. Mary was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. Among her many enjoyments were playing bingo, water skiing, gardening, baking and spending time with family and friends at the beach and Lake Hauto. Bob and Sis spent the winter season in Lake Placid, FL for 20 years.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her two sons; Samuel R. Leedy and wife Joan of Gettysburg and Tony C. Leedy and wife Debra of Cashtown, PA. She was the proud grandmother of Timothy Leedy and wife Molly of New Hope, PA, Tricia Patterson and husband Joel of Mount Wolf, PA and Thomas “Buck” Vitulli and wife Waka of Germany. Sis was great-grandmother to Reins, Mae and Rylie Leedy, Avery, Jack and Alivia Patterson and Emma Vitulli. Sis is also survived by one brother, William Snider of Annapolis, MD. She was predeceased by two sisters; Peggy Johnson and Ann Settle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St. Gettysburg, PA with the Rev. Andrew Geib, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m.
The family suggests memorials to St. James Lutheran Church or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
