Obituary for Mary Louise Oyler
Mary Louise Group Oyler, 84 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA after a long illness. Born in Gettysburg, PA on November 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Paul Z. & Elizabeth F. (Hartman) Group. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Atty. Donald G. Oyler, who died in 1998. She graduated from Gettysburg High School, Shippensburg University and earned her Master’s Degree from Western Maryland College. Mary had been employed as a teacher by the Carlisle School District and later the Gettysburg School District for many years. After her teaching career she owned and operated the Guilded Mirror, a fine women’s clothing store in Gettysburg for a number of years. Mary was involved in the community and was a member of; D.A.R., Order of the Eastern Star, Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of the Adams County Public Library, Adams County Land Conservatory, Historic Gettysburg Adams County, Gettysburg Hospital Bridge Club, the former Gettysburg Country Club and a former board member of the Cancer Society Board. She was a member of Flohr’s Lutheran Church in McKnightstown, PA. Mary is survived by her two children; Lisa L. Nelson of Vienna, VA and Atty. Ralph D. Oyler of Lake Oswego, OR, four grandchildren; Christopher N. & Daniel A. Nelson, Sarah Oyler and Jennifer E. Oyler-Yaniv. A private funeral service and interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg. The family suggests memorials to the Adams County Public Library, Donald G. Oyler Memorial, 140 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, the Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Dr., Suite 204, Harrisburg, PA 17110, SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, 260 West High St., Gettysburg, PA 17325.
