Obituary for Mary Martha Schlesinger
Mary Martha Schlesinger, 94, formerly of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at The Gardens in Gettysburg, PA.
Born October 28, 1924 in Twin Rocks, PA the daughter of the late Joseph
and Stella Oceska Murawski.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Dr. Robert A. Schlesinger, her son-in-law Jerry Miller, seven siblings and her close friend Joe Gioia.
She met her husband Bob in NYC during WWII. They married in 1948 and moved to Oklahoma where Bob worked for the VA Hospital. In 1953 they moved to Broomall, where they raised their children. Later in life, she and Joe enjoyed dinner and dancing at German and Polish clubs as well as traveling. In 2010, Mary moved to Gettysburg to be near her daughters.
Mary had a green thumb, enjoying gardening and growing tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkins. She was also an expert seamstress, making dresses for herself and holiday costumes for her children’s and grandchildren’s enjoyment. She also played in several bowling leagues, having rolled a number of 300 pin games.
She is survived by her daughters Violet Schlesinger and Shad Miller, and son,
Richard Schlesinger (Suzanne) of Lansdale, PA; two grandchildren Rebecca and Alex, and a brother, Carl Murawski of Twin Rocks, PA.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
