Obituary for Maysie E. Deardorff
Maysie E. Deardorff, 92, 6375 Chambersburg Road, Fayetteville, PA died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Village of Laurel Run.
She was born September 1, 1923 in Fairfield, PA the daughter of the late Ira and Ida Henry Slonaker. Maysie’s husband Mark D. Deardorff died in 1983.
Maysie was the youngest of her immediate family, her father passed away prior to her birth and she was raised by her mother and aunt, Alma Henry. She graduated from York Hospital Nursing School in 1945 and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Fort Rictchie and the Marine Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In later years she worked as a temporary clerk at the Fairfield Post Office. Along with her husband they built, owned and operated the White Barn Motel just outside Fairfield. Maysie enjoyed family gatherings and never missed a Slonaker reunion. She looked forward to visits and luncheons with her nursing friends. Maysie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
Mrs. Deardorff is survived by three children; Patricia A. Bostwick and her husband Robert of Waynesboro, PA, Jack D. Deardorff and his wife Anne of Martinsburg, W.VA., David L. Deardorff of Fairfield, PA, four grandchildren; Gretchen Baumgardner and her husband Matthew of Wilmington, NC, Heather Shatzer and her husband Shawn of Waynesboro, PA, Kara Deardorff of Fairfield, PA, Christa Deardorff of Lower Burrell, PA, seven great grandchildren; Maysie Baumgardner, Hopper Baumgardner, Paxton Shatzer, Maggie Shatzer, Sophie Shatzer, Kaelah White, Elissa White and a great great granddaughter, Mila White.
A viewing will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Monahan Funeral Home, 27 East Main Street, Fairfield, PA from 10:30 until 11:30. Following the viewing a graveside service will be held at Fairfield Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Gettysburg United Methodist Church, 30 West High Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
