Obituary for Nancy Ann (Bender) Slaybaugh
Nancy Ann (Bender) Slaybaugh, 84, formerly of Gettysburg, PA died Sunday morning, October 8, 2017 at The Brethren Home Community-Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, PA.
Born October 24, 1932 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Sara (Spangler) Bender, Sr. She was the wife of the late James F. Slaybaugh, Jr. who died in 2010.
Mrs. Slaybaugh was a 1950 graduate of Gettysburg High School. She attended Westminster Choir College and graduated from Shippensburg State College with a degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach in the Gettysburg Area School District where she enjoyed teaching students in various grades throughout her career as an educator.
Nancy loved her Lord and her Church; her family; and her volunteer opportunities, especially leading Bible studies, singing in the choir and serving at the Adams County Rescue Mission and Gettysburg Hospital.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Susan Slaybaugh Mrazik and son-in-law Robert of Harrisburg, PA; four grandchildren Cheryl, Daniel and Anne Mrazik and Jill Branin and her husband Chris; her brother Charles B. Bender, Jr. and his wife Betsy C., of Gettysburg, PA; four nieces and two nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 West High St., Gettysburg, PA with Fr. Samuel Houser, Celebrant. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass Friday morning at the church. The Monahan Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements and online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Adams County Rescue Mission, 2515 York Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or The Brethren Home Foundation, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
