Obituary for Patricia A. Henry
Patricia Ann (Stevens) Henry passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, with her family by her side. Patricia was born November 24, 1932 in Gettysburg, the daughter of the late John William Stevens and Grace Lorraine (Fitz) Stevens.
A lifelong resident of Gettysburg and a member of the “York Street Gang”, she graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1950 and attended Gettysburg College. She was Secretary to the head of Department of Health’s Rheumatic Heart Disease Office in Harrisburg for 8 years.
On April 13 1958, she married James Ray Henry of Hanover. Patricia is survived by three daughters, Lisa Stover, Laurel (Dan) Wilkinson, and Leann Klingensmith, all of Gettysburg and one son J. Michael Henry (Diana Flynn) of New Oxford. While raising her own children, Mrs. Henry provided daycare in her home for many local children. She then went on to work as a cashier at Gettysburg High School and Gettysburg Middle School for 25 years, retiring in 1998.
She was active in the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, an avid reader, and was very involved in researching her family geneology. Patricia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg from birth until the year 2000 at which time she transferred membership to Mt. Joy Lutheran Church where she was Superintendent of Sunday School and a member of Lutheran Church Women (LCW) and the Altar Guild.
Patricia was a doting Grandma to eleven Grandchildren: Lucky Stover, Jr. (Jill Shindledecker), Leah Stover Crum (Andrew), Andrew Sentz (Kristi Paull), Dustyn Sentz, Kendall Wilkinson, Ty Wilkinson, Jeramiah Klingensmith (S. Therese Masser), Benjamin Klingensmith, Richard Jones (Adria Yantis), Karen Henry Speelman (Cody), and Joshua Henry. She is also survived by thirteen Great-Grandchildren and another due in August: Logan Goodwill, Lawson Stover, Leighton Stover, Jaden Crum, Kylee Crum, Braden Paull, Cailey Sentz, Chloe Sentz, Brooklyn Sentz, Ali Klingensmith, Tanner Klingensmith, “CJ” Speelman, and Alice Jones.
Patricia is survived by a sister, Nancy M. (Stevens) Nelson and her children Eric, Jason and Bryana.
A Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 23, 2017 at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Peter Naschke officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 P.M., Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2017 at the funeral home, as well as from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service Monday morning.
