Obituary for Patricia Katherine Bushey
Patricia Katherine Bushey, 81, of Gettysburg, PA passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
Known as: Miss Bushey to the countless students she taught and mentored as a teacher of English and Music, Pat to her friends and family and Aunt Pat to so many people both family and friends that it would be impossible to calculate that number.
Aunt Pat will be sorely missed by those who knew her as she was a good ear to listen to what you had to say and usually had good, sensible advice to dispense when asked and a melodic laugh when hearing an amusing story.
Pat was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. With daily prayers for those who were on her famous “list” and for those she didn’t even know, she was comforted in the thought that a higher power than ourselves was at the helm and watching over us.
An avid reader, Pat read anything in print-if it got written, it was read by Pat. Known to read as many as two or three books a day, Pat loved the written word-and wouldn’t give in to electronic books, insisting on keeping with the tradition of turning actual pages she read.
Graduating in 1952 from Gettysburg High School, where she was involved in the drama department productions as talent both on and off the stage, was just the start of a full life that Pat went on to live. She graduated from St. Mary’s College in Indiana and began a long teaching career that went from Hagerstown, Maryland to the sounds of Long Island, New York. She impacted so many young minds whom have gone on to become authors, actors, artists, moms and dads. She was a true master of the English language and if you wanted to know anything about the use of a word or how to diagram a sentence, Pat was your go-to person.
While she never married, she found joy in the children of her family and friends with new generations entering life and bringing her much happiness.
Preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph F.X. Bushey and Clara McCleaf Bushey, brother, Joseph F. Bushey and sister Jean King, Pat was survived by two sisters, Barbara Jordan and Joan Powers both of Whittier, North Carolina as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
