Obituary for Richard (Dick) Jay Walter
Richard (Dick) Jay Walter went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2018 at the SpiriTrust Lutheran Home in Gettysburg, PA.
Dick was born January 22, 1931 in Arendtsville, PA. His parents were Gift H. and Bertha S. Walter. He grew up on the family farm outside Arendtsville, PA and farmed until 1969. He was Mountain Manager for Charnita Inc/Ski Liberty for many years. And he worked for the Carroll Valley Borough as Waste Water Operator for many years. He also was a Home Repair Contractor for 30 years.
He was well liked by the community and was known for being someone who would be willing to help you in any way possible. He gave a lot of his time to be a good neighbor.
He was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville, PA and then became a member of the Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Fairfield. He was a life-long member of the Arendtsville Fire Company. And he was a member of the Carroll Valley Citizens Association for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley P. Walter. He is also survived by his children, son, Rodger K. Walter and his wife Candice, Fairfield, PA and daughter, Deborah S. Warwick and her husband Dennis, Richfield, Minnesota. He is survived by 16 grandchildren.
Step-children are: Maresa Zirpoli, Gettysburg, PA, Nancy A. Zirpoli, Mercersburg, PA, Mark Zirpoli and Nick Zirpoli, both of Fairfield. Former step-children are Wesley Bowmaster, New Mexico, Darryl Bucher, Georgia and Dennis Bucher, Fairfield, PA
He is also survived by his sister Patricia A. Kinneman and her husband, Larry Kinneman of Kernersville, NC.
He is predeceased by a brother Francis Walter, formerly of Arendtsville, Pa. and sister Louise E. Hikes, formerly of Gardners, PA.
A memorial celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at the GBC Church, 95 Fairview Road, Gettysburg, PA. Pastor Kimberly Phillips of Mount Hope United Methodist Church and Pastor William Mummert of GBC Church will officiate the service. Family will receive friends at the luncheon following the service.
