Obituary for Richard E. "Moonie" Munshour
Richard E. “Moonie” Munshour, Sr. 80 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg after a long illness.
Born in Gettysburg on April 12, 1936, he was the son of the late James D. & Virginia (Lochbaum) Munshour. Moonie is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Pauline A. (Kimple) Munshour.
He was a 1954 graduate of Gettysburg High School and enjoyed the monthly luncheons with his classmates. Moonie served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1953-1961. He owned and operated Moon’s Import in Gettysburg from 1971 until 2016. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, MD, the Gettysburg Moose Club, York Corvair Club and a former member of the White Run Municipal Authority Board. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV, golfing, restoring cars, following NASCAR, and was known as a great joke teller.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children; Richard E. Munshour, Jr. of Hanover, PA, Sharon L. Munshour of Frederick, MD and David M. Munshour of Gardners, PA, four grandchildren; Ashley N. Munshour and her boyfriend Tim Geiger, Nicholas D. Munshour, Kelly M. Munshour and Rachel E. Munshour, a sister, Treva Heller and husband Donald of Beverly Hills, MI and Terri Eyer, who Moonie considered his second daughter. He was predeceased by a brother, James Munshour.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Anthony Shrine Catholic Church, 16150 St. Anthony’s Road Emmitsburg, MD with Fr. Collin Poston, Celebrant. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Chambersburg Rd. Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anthony’s, per Moonie’s request there will not be a viewing.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Grane Hospice, 3501 Concord Road, Suite 110, York, PA 17402. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the arrangements, online tributes and condolences can be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
