Obituary for Richard Joseph Seidel
Richard Joseph Seidel, 59, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Emmitsburg, MD, died Monday, April 10, 2017.
Born in Gettysburg, PA, on March 2, 1958, Rick was the son of the late M. Ruth (Kaas) and Robert A. Seidel, Sr. He was loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and friend.
Rick was a graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, MD. He was a loyal member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.
Rick was a longtime member of Way Station Inc. in Frederick, MD, serving on the Board of Directors. He participated in many of their activities, such as the NOMI walk, visiting Nursing Homes, Pet-a-pet, and visiting horse rescue farms. He volunteered at the Beacon House. He was also a member of and led group discussions at On Our Own in Frederick. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the local HUD.
He is survived by nine siblings, Judy Dick and husband Robert of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Adelsberger and husband Ken of Biglerville, PA, Barbara Gscheidle of Parrish, FL, Robert Seidel, Jr. and wife Sandy of Gettysburg, PA, Edward Seidel of Kenosha, WI, Mary Bradford and husband Tom of Dillwyn, VA, Theresa Wyatt and husband Ed of Ijamsville, MD, Carol Seipler of Thurmont, MD, Francis Seidel and wife Nicole; and by many nieces and nephews.
Rick was also preceded in death by his nephews Bobby Adelsberger and 1LT Robert Seidel III.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St, Gettysburg, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 100 N. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD, with Rev. John J. Holliday, C.M. as celebrant. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
