Obituary for Richard Martin Kreisher
Richard Martin Kreisher passed away on December 10th, 2017 in Gettysburg, PA at the age of 75 with his loving wife of 51 years, Lynne M. Kreisher, by his side.
Rich, as everyone affectionately called him, was born in Mountain Grove, PA on October 12, 1942. He was the son of the late Harvey M. and Alberta B. (Stine) Kreisher.
Rich was a member of the US Navy stationed at the Fleet Operations Control Center in Hawaii during the Vietnam War. Before his deployment he met his future bride while in the Naval Reserves, and they were married on June 11, 1966. After active duty, Rich attended and graduated with a degree from Elizabethtown College.
Rich started his successful career in the financial services industry as a career agent with the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company. He worked out of the McCoy Insurance Agency in Gettysburg in which he became the owner of the agency in 1986. In 1992, Rich merged his practice with Davies Insurance where they became Davies, Kreisher & McCoy and one of the most prominent insurance agencies in southern Pennsylvania. Rich retired in 2002 and devoted much of his time to enjoying life with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing golf, spending time at his cottage in Canada, and loved to attend and watch his grandchildren's sporting and school events.
Rich was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg and had served on the church council for a number of years. He was a distinguished member of the community and was the past president of the Gettysburg Jaycees, Borough Council, Rotary, and Gettysburg Hospital Board of Directors. He also was actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce, Crime Stoppers of Adams County, Boy Scouts of America (Black Walnut District), Freemasons Lodge #336, and was a past member of the Gettysburg Country Club.
Mr. Kreisher is survived by his wife, Lynne, and his three children and their families: Kirk Kreisher and his wife Melissa and their son, Elijah of Averil Park, NY; Kelly Riggle and her husband Andy and their children Drew and Mia of Gettysburg, PA; and Kerry Kreisher of Gettysburg, PA. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Yeager of Numidia, PA. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Audrey Adams.
Rich will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, great personality, and deep love for his family and friends.
There will be a memorial service held at 12:00 pm on Saturday December 16, 2017 at the St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Allwein, officiating. A visitation will be held at 11:00am prior to the service at St. James, and on Friday from 6-8pm at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA.
