Obituary for Richard R. Golden
Richard R. Golden, 75, passed away at his home on Monday, August 28, 2017.

He was born June 11, 1942 in Adams County, PA the son of the late Ray and Helen Golden/Raffensperger and stepson to the late Frank Raffensperger. He was the loving husband of Frances Mickey Golden to whom he was married for 52 years. Dick is also survived by a brother, Rodney Golden and his wife Karen of Fayetteville, PA, two sisters; Dolores Henry and her husband Ernest of Orrtanna, PA, Zea Shultz and her husband Ron of Cashtown, PA, sister-in-law, Barbara Golden of Gettysburg, PA and step-brother, Ron Raffensperger of Cashtown, PA. He was predeceased by a brother Ray E. Golden, Jr.

Dick graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1960 and could not wait to enlist in the Air Force as he was always planned to do. He was a Hospital Pharmacy Specialist, serving at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and finished up his 4 year service with a 15 month assignment at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya. Upon release from active duty Dick enjoyed being home and finally began a career with United Telephone as a Central office technician, working his way through Customer service engineer, Communications Consultant and Eastern Sales Manager. While working in the Gettysburg area he represented United to the Rotary club and Chamber of Commerce for a short period. During that time Dick joined the Gettysburg Jaycees, rising to the office of President. In 1981 Dick transferred to North Supply Company, a subsidiary of United Telephone, which became Sprint. He would work successfully for Sprint North Supply for the next 16 years, traveling a 4 state area, taking early retirement in 1998. Dick was a member of the Fairfield AmVets and the Gettysburg American Legion.

In 1998, Dick had the pleasure of working as a manager part-time at the Gettysburg Rental Center for Helen and Larry Hornbake. This turned into full time in 1999. In mid-2000 he “retired” from the Rental Center to spend more time with family. In 2004, until 2007 he worked a happy part-time job at Aces High Gallery in Gettysburg for cousin Steve Shultz and wife Barbara.

In 1988 Dick proudly got his Private Pilot license. The joy of flying, matched with working at Aces High, surrounded by diecast aircraft and aviation artwork was pure heaven. He was also past president of the Gettysburg Barnstormers flying club. The love of aviation began as a kid and only ended when he took his last flight into the wild blue yonder.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
