Obituary for Robert S. Weikert
Robert S. Weikert, 81, 139 Hunters Trail, Gettysburg, PA died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Gettysburg Hospital.
He was born September 22, 1937 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Robert G. and Gladys Rudisill Weikert. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Wilson Weikert.
Mr. Weikert was a 1955 graduate of Gettysburg High School. From 1955 through 1996 he was employed at the former Gettysburg National Bank, the current PNC Bank. He began his career as a teller, then moved to the Trust Department and later became an Auditor, and also worked in the Marketing Department where he developed the “Try Gettysburg First” Campaign. He was also president of Main Street in the early nineties in which he was involved in planning and establishing the Alumni Park on Lefever Street and began the Brick Naming program on Lincoln Square and beginning the Christmas Parade. He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church where in the early years served on the church council and was a Sunday School Teacher. He coached in the Gettysburg Little League for 25 years. Bob was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed camping. He was a devoted family man especially his grandchildren and was instrumental in organizing the annual week long family reunions at Caledonia State Park and vacations to Ocean City, MD.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters; Wendy S. Shrader and her husband Lawrence of York Springs, PA, Beth A. Corson and her husband Emerson of Biglerville, PA, a son, Timothy R. Weikert of Gettysburg, PA, three grandchildren; Gabriella Corson, Carlie Corson, Katherine Weikert, and a young man, Kevin Myers of Charlotte, NC, who grew up with the family, two brothers; Harold Weikert and his wife Connie of Wilmington, NC, Douglas Weikert of Bethlehem, PA, a sister-in-law, Nancy Wolff Weikert (Jack Tibbetts) of Allentown, PA, brother-in-law, Richard Wilson and his wife Mina, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Sidney Weikert.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, PA at 11:00 AM with Rev. Andrew Geib officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Monday, October 22nd from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
