Obituary for Rodney G. Herbert
Rodney G. Herbert, 69, of Gettysburg, PA passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the York Hospital in York, PA.
Born April 8, 1949 in McCook, Nebraska he was the son of the late Earl and Lila (Strayer) Herbert. He was the loving husband of Jill M. (Smith) Herbert, of Gettysburg, PA to whom he was married for 44 years.
Mr. Herbert graduated from West Seattle High School in West Seattle, WA and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for a number of years for Excel Logistics (formerly Fostoria Distribution) in Fostoria OH as a forklift driver, later serving as a houseparent at the Smoky Mountain Home for Children in Sevierville, Tennessee.
In addition to his wife, Rodney is survived by his son, Reverend Jeremiah J. Herbert and his wife Cori, of Littlestown, PA, his daughter Amy A. Herbert, of Gettysburg, PA, his four grandchildren, Samuel, Zion, Gabriel, and Lila, and his brother, Darrell E. Herbert and his wife Jeri, of Des Moines, Washington. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristin Sue Herbert and four siblings, Gerry Herbert, Alden Herbert, Michael Herbert, and Rosanna Whitted.
A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at the Intersection Church, 1980 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive visitors and friends beginning one hour before the service.
