
Obituary for Roland L. Erb
Roland L. Erb, 91, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Gettysburg Hospital.
Roland was born on July 31, 1926 in Silver Run, Maryland, the son of the late William and Margaret (Reaver) Erb.
Roland served in the Maryland National Guard and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Army. He was known as “the bandolier kid” while serving in Korea. He loved his country and was a true American. He worked on numerous farms before serving his country. Upon returning home from overseas he worked as a truck driver, welder and before retiring he was employed as a machinist for Westinghouse Elevator. He loved hunting, fishing, family corn roasts and taking his wife on trips to Florida. He enjoyed watching golf and Penn State football. He loved his family above all else. Roland was baptized when he was a child but decided to reconfirm his faith by being baptized again at the age of 85.
Roland was predeceased by his wife of over 62 years, Elizabeth E. (Clark) Erb who passed away in 2009. He was also predeceased by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
He is survived by his daughter Norma J. (Erb) Herring and her husband David of Gettysburg. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jeanine A. Clark and brother-in-law, Richard Clark of Gettysburg as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and many, many friends.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at 1863 Inn of Gettysburg, 516 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, PA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Roland’s name to the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
