Obituary for Ronald Theodore Grance
Ronald Theodore Grance, 79, of Biglerville, PA, died November 16, 2016 surrounded by his family after a recent cancer diagnosis.
He was born March 26, 1937 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Theodore and Hedwig Andrzejczak Grance. Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Catherine Heffner Grance.
Ron was a 1955 graduate of Everett Southern Joint High School and a 1959 graduate of Duquesne University where he was a member of the ROTC. He was in the United States Army and was an officer with the 3rd Howitzer Battalion, 6th Artillery at Fort Still, Oklahoma. He attained the rank of Captain upon his discharge from the reserves. He operated the Caledonia Drive-in Theater for his father for several years and then worked as an accountant for 37 years at Knouse Foods. He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Buchanan Valley. He had served as a youth group leader, lector, Eucharistic minister, finance chair-person and on Church council. Ron was a member of the Upper Adams Lions Club for 50 years. He had served as President, Zone Chairman for three years, and was Treasurer for 14 years. He had been named Lion of the Year and earned the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services. He was a member of a number of organizations over the years including Toastmasters International, the Institute of Management Accounts, and the Cash Management Association.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by two daughters, Theresa Ahn of Hanover; Susan Landauer and her husband Paul of Gettysburg; three granddaughters, Victoria Ahn, Caitlyn Landauer, and Rachel Landauer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three half-brothers and a half-sister.
The family will receive friends at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, Sunday afternoon, November 20, 2016 from 2-4 PM with a Vigil Service for the Deceased at 3:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning, November 21, 2016 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Rd., Orrtanna, PA, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dominic M.
