Obituary for Sally K. O'Brien
Sally K. O’Brien, 75, of Gettysburg, PA died Monday night, September 17, 2018 at her home.

Born March 1, 1943 in Lewistown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cleon and Naomi (Shettig) Krug. She was the wife of Matthew J. O’Brien of Gettysburg, to whom she was joyfully married for 52 years. She was a courageous, two-time breast cancer survivor.

Sally was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg. She attended Temple University, earning an Associates Degree. She enjoyed a long career as a dental hygienist, including in Ebensburg, Dallastown and Gettysburg School Districts, and with Drs. Sheen and Tully, and Dr. David Staneck. She was oft heard consoling her patients, “It’s okay, just floss the ones you want to keep!” She was a self-professed “political junkie” who followed politics closely and was a firm believer in treating everyone with kindness and respect. She advocated open-mindedness and tolerance for others’ views and lifestyles. Her family and many friends benefited from her unconditional love and support. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.

In addition to her husband, Sally is survived by her two children, Michael O’Brien and his wife Christine, of Erie, PA, Meghan O’Brien, of Gettysburg, PA, her five grandchildren, Quinn Jones, Logan Jones, Colin O’Brien, Caitlin O’Brien, Conor O’Brien, her two sisters, Ann Trapolsi, of Erie, PA, Jean Singer, of Las Vegas, NV, her brother, Edward Krug, of Pittsburgh, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Krug.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, September 24, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 West High St., Gettysburg, PA with Fr. John Kuchinski Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM, Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA. Online condolences may be made atmonahanfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Sally’s honor to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (www.pabreastcancer.org).
