Obituary for Stanley "Pete" Shindledecker
Stanley “Pete” Shindledecker, 66, of Gettysburg, PA died Sunday morning, August 7, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 6, 1950 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of Ruth E. Sorlie, of Gettysburg, PA and the late Sterling K. Shindledecker. He was the husband of Judy L. (Sierzega) Shindledecker, of Gettysburg to whom he was married to for 19 years.
Mr. Shindledecker was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from DalTile as a kiln operator in March of 2016 working there from 1999 to 2004 and then from 2010 to 2016. He previously worked at Glenn Gary Brick for 25 years. He was a Civil War buff and reenactor and actually appeared in the movie “Gettysburg.” He enjoyed riding His Harley with his son and was a member for 35 years with ABATE, metal detecting, and working outside in his yard.
In addition to his wife and mother, Pete is survived by his son, Jesse Shindledecker, of Elizabethtown, PA, step-son, Michael Woodson, of Gettysburg, PA, step-daughter, Sandi King, of Gettysburg, PA, grandson, Dylon Shindledecker, step-granddaughter, Stephanie King, two brothers, Larry Shindledecker, of Belpree, Ohio, David Shindledecker, of Georgia, sister, Linda Edwards, of Chambersburg, PA, a number of nieces and nephews, and two devoted friends, Charlie Fitzwater and Shane.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Bill Ingram officiating. Burial with full military honors being presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the funeral home, as well as an hour before the services Thursday morning before the services.
