Obituary for Terry L. Hartle

Terry L. Hartle, 75 of Fairfield passed away, Sunday morning, June 2, 2024 at the York Hospital after a brave struggle against aggressive renal carcinoma.

Born May 3, 1949 in Detour, MD Terry was the son of the late Cecil K. and Helen R. (Starlipper) Hartle.

After spending his early childhood in Emmitsburg, MD, Terry’s family moved to the Fairfield area, where he graduated from high school with the Class of ‘67. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, studying electronics in Denver, CO before being stationed in Montgomery, AL. He was discharged in 1974 with the rank of Staff Sergeant and returned to Fairfield with his young family to establish his home. Later that same year, he purchased the property on which he built the house in which he would spend the rest of his life. He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot by the U.S. government and by subcontractors until his retirement.

Terry was a familiar face at the Village Book & Table, which he visited daily for meals and to visit with his friends there. Most of his friends know he enjoyed cars, and that he was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed meeting his classmates from Fairfield High School for monthly get-togethers. He lived quietly and simply, collecting gadgets and enjoying international music via YouTube.

Terry is survived by his two children, Shannon Hurley of Maryland (Jim) and Steven Hartle of Mechanicsburg (Laura), his grandchildren, Amanda and Siarra Long, and Lauren, Audrey, and Ava Hartle, as well as three great grandchildren, Cara Bollinger, Copeland Guise, and Lane Hammond. Predeceased by his eldest sister, Norma Kalbaugh, Terry is survived by siblings, Stanley, Julia, Sandy, Steve and Joanne.

Services for Terry will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home with Pastor Jim DeRamus officiating. Burial will be in the Emmitsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Il lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17603 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
