Obituary for Vera R. (Mimi) Hathaway
Vera R. (Mimi) Hathaway Age 100, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio and Gettysburg, PA died Sunday afternoon at her home in West Palm Beach, FL.
Born on November 27, 1918 in Rochester, N.Y. The daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Jordan.
She and her husband Lloyd “Torch” Hathaway were married for 56 years until his death in 1997. Together they owned and operated numerous restaurants in The Greater Cincinnati area for over 50 years. Their first restaurant ‘Hathaway’s Restaurant in the Carew Tower became an historic icon in the center of downtown Cincinnati and served many generations of families. ‘Mimi’ was known for her style and generous heart, her extravagant Christmas celebrations and love for her dogs.
She was a volunteer and chairperson for several charitable organizations in particular, the American Heart Association. During World War II as part of the domestic war effort, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Her family was the main focus of her life. She leaves behind her two daughters, Kim Herrlinger and Laurie Monahan and her husband Robert Monahan, Jr., of West Palm Beach, FL , five grandchildren, Page Herrlinger, David Herrlinger, Kelly Monahan Harrold, Brooke Monahan and Kate Monahan and four great grandchildren, Alexander, Talia, Lily and Elena Friedland.
Private funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105. Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA.
