Obituary for Virginia "Mumpy" Hill
Virginia A. “Mumpy” Hill, 72, Gettysburg, PA died suddenly on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the York Hospital.
She was born November 1, 1943 in Gettysburg, PA the daughter of the late Hubert L. and Cora Craig Wise.
Virginia was a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church where she had served as a member of the Board of Trustees and a Deaconess. Mrs. Hill had been employed by Pennsylvania Job Services for many years and later for the Washington Radio Reporter at Federal Communications Commission building and finally for PennDOT. Virginia enjoyed her Friday night card parties. She was a very social person who was also involved in community projects. Virginia was a social member of the Gettysburg American Legion and the Gettysburg VFW.
Virginia is survived by five children; Charles D. Hill and his wife Michelle Williams of Biglerville, PA, Sherri L. Stewart and her husband James of York, PA, Joseph R. Hill, Jr. and his wife Paula of York, PA, Leslie H. Neeper and her husband Carl of York, PA, Melanie D. Warford and her husband Alex of Cleveland, OH, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, two sisters; Mary M. “Sis” Beatty of York, PA and Martha M. “Peggy” Hill of Gettysburg, PA, and a companion, Harry Lipscomb, also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hill was predeceased by a husband, Joseph R. Hill, Sr. and a sister, Dolores Stanton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Donald Brantley officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
