Obituary for Wayne Keefer
Wayne Keefer passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday August 6, 2017 at his home in Hanover, PA at the age of 72.
Wayne was born on May 17, 1945 to Glenn and Sarah (Schultz) Keefer of McKnightstown, PA. Wayne was the fourth of five children and grew up on the family farm in the McKnightstown area. Wayne graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1964. He was in the Army Reserves for 6 years.
Wayne married his loving wife, Patricia, on August 5, 1967 in Carlisle, PA. They resided in Fairfield until 1997. Wayne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and as President of the church council. Wayne was active in the Boy Scouts of America, in which he held the positions of Webelos Leader, Committee Member, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster with Troop 162 in Cashtown, PA. He obtained the adult advanced training award, Wood Badge, in 2006. Wayne was employed at R. H. Sheppard Co. as a toolmaker for 24 years.
Wayne moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1997, to be closer to his three grandsons, who lived in Wisconsin. After his wife’s retirement in 2014 they moved to Hanover, PA, where Wayne enjoyed spending time playing with his fourth grandson.
Wayne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease three years ago. He was able to spend the remainder of his life with his loving and supportive wife and family.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia; his daughter Stephanie Schneider and husband Steven of Avoca, WI; son Stephen Keefer and wife Melissa of Gettysburg, PA; grandsons Alexander, Lucus and Ethan Schneider and Nathan Keefer; brother Michael Keefer and wife Shirley. He is preceded in death by his sister Patricia Hull; brothers Clair and John Keefer; and by infant twin grandsons Callen and Brayden Keefer, who are now with the angels.
A viewing for Wayne’s family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St, Gettysburg, PA. A Christian Burial Service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 13 E. Main St., Fairfield, PA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Burial will be at Flohr’s Cemetery in McKnightstown, PA.
