Obituary for William D. Mallette

William D. Mallette, age 77 of Gettysburg, entered into Gods Eternal rest on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on High Street, Gettysburg. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at the church. Burial with full military honors being presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
Bill was born on November 10, 1939 in Gouverneur, New York. The son of the late George and Josephine Mallette, he is one of eleven children. Bill is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 55 years, Julia D. (Austin) Mallette, married on February 8, 1962. IN addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children. Daughter Susan and husband Mike Sharrah of Orrtanna, son Jon and wife Sandy Mallette of Hanover, and daughter Lisa and husband Billie Eyler of Gettysburg. Bill has 7 grandchildren, Zachary and wife Kyla Sharrah of St. Augustine, Florida, Nathan Sharrah of Orrtanna, Josh Eyler and Sarah Easley of York, Cassie and husband Bradley Fockler of Orrtanna, and Aly, Hailey and Jessie Mallette of Hanover. Bill also had numerous nieces and nephews who adored him. Bill’s surviving siblings, sisters Donna and husband Mike Laughman of York, Vicky Petrosky of Gettysburg, Sally Stecher of Gettysburg, brothers Bob and wife Doris Mallette of Gettysburg, Jim and wife Marcy Mallette of Allentown, Mike Mallette and Bruce Mallette of York and Joe Mallette. He is predeceased by sisters, Betty, Josephine and brother, Allen.
Bill attended St. Francis School and Delone Catholic High School. He joined the United States Air Force and served eight years. During that time, he was stationed in Canada for one year and England for four months. He was honorably discharged in 1966. He continued to serve in the Army National Guard for two years. Bill was a supervisor for Knouse Foods, Inc., Orrtanna, PA for thirty-seven years where he worked until he retired.
Bill was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and devout Catholic. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus in McSherrystown.
Bill was known for his sense of humor, generosity, kindness to friends and neighbors, and above all, love for his family.
He was blessed to have so many people around him that loved him and he will forever be remembered. A special “thank you” to Grane Hospice. He was very blessed to have such attentive and special care by Becka, his Nurse, and Heather, his Nurse Aide. We are forever grateful for the caring support.
