Obituary for Reva Mae (Schoenberg) Rarig
Reva Mae (Schoenberg) Rarig of Orrtanna, Adams County, PA, died October 26, 2016 at age 100, in Carlisle, PA.

She was the wife of the late Frederick John Rarig, Sr., sister of the late Ada (Schoenberg) Daniels, and beloved mother of Elizabeth Ann Tyson (Chester J. Tyson III), Alice Jane Rarig (Gregory Williams), Susan Joanna Makler (P. Todd Makler, Jr.) and Frederick John Rarig, Jr. (Leslie Ann Best). She is also survived by grandchildren Chester J. (Skip) Tyson IV, Kimberly Tyson Crone, Keith Frederick Tyson, Lenore Summer Kalarness, Samuel Huston Westover, Christopher Rarig Makler, Jonathan Todd Makler, Jenny Madeleine Rarig Sloat, and Robert-Andre Rarig, as well as sixteen great grandchildren.

Reva was born in Rochester, NY. She was a 1937 graduate of Cornell University studying economics and a 1939 graduate of Cornell University School of Law. While raising her four children, Reva volunteered in Doylestown, PA as a family advocate in the county court, and later worked with a nearby elementary school reading to children in an enrichment program that became a prototype of the current “Head Start” program. She noticed the need for legal services for disadvantaged families in the community, leading her to head the Doylestown Legal Aid Society for several years.

She always enjoyed reading, listening to music, gardening and helping to manage the farm in Doylestown, PA where the Rarig family lived from 1946 to 1988.

A private family service will be held at Solebury Monthly Meeting, Solebury, PA. Contributions in her memory can be made to 4-H Clubs of Adams County, Inc. - The Rarig Fund, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Suite 204, Gettysburg, PA 17325-3404. The fund supports conservation education.
