
Obituary for Jean Elizabeth Simpson
Jean Elizabeth Simpson, 91, of Gettysburg, PA died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, PA.
Born March 19, 1926 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Isaac & Laura (Kane) Leedy. Mrs. Simpson is survived by her husband of 73 years, Glenn E. Simpson.
She was a member of the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren and served as a Sunday School Teacher for 42 years. Mrs. Simpson was a member and former President of the Gettysburg Borough Council, serving for 10 years. She was the Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the year in 1989, member of the Gettysburg Garden Club and volunteered for many years with the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children to whom she wanted to be remembered as a great mother; Linda Simpson Gebhart and husband Ken of Gettysburg, Sandra L. Weikert and husband George of Gettysburg and Rod G. Simpson and wife Jen of Gettysburg, eight grandchildren; Jen Weikert, Adam Weikert, Owen Weikert, Dr. Ben Weikert, Abby Gebhart Grasso, Kyle Gebhart, Jessica Jane Camauff and Jamie Ann Lowenthal, ten great grandchildren, and a brother, Robert Leedy and wife Sis of Gettysburg. Mrs. Simpson was predeceased by eight siblings; Isabelle Ferry, Marjorie Raffensperger, Raymond, Donald, James, John, Thomas and William Leedy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2107 at the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren, 1710 Biglerville Rd. Gettysburg, PA with Revs. Richard Godfrey and Harold Bowser, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, serving as pallbearers will be; Rod Simpson, Kyle Gebhart, Adam Weikert, Ben Weikert, Owen Weikert, Jessica Camauff and Jamie Lowenthal.
