Obituary for Richard S. Keefer, Sr.
Richard S. Keefer, 65, 45 Kinsey Drive, Gettysburg, PA died Thursday, November 9, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born August 9, 1952 in Gettysburg, PA the son of the late Jacob and Byrle Bowling Keefer. Richard is survived by his wife Melissa “Missy” Smith Keefer.
Richard is a 1970 graduate of Biglerville High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. Following his service he was employed for a time as a prison guard at the Adams County Prison and then spent 33 years as a Sheriff’s Deputy in the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 2013. Richard was a former member of the Gettysburg American Legion and the Gettysburg Moose. He enjoyed hunting and riding his Harley.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Richard S. Keefer, Jr. and his wife Sarah of Orrtanna, PA, a daughter, Dawn Re and her husband Kirk of Aspers’ PA, four step-children; Timothy Hoffman, Jr. and his wife Trish of Abbottstown, PA, Linsey Hoffman of Abbottstown, PA, Blake Hoffman of Gettysburg, PA, Andrew Hoffman of Spring Grove, PA, six grandchildren; Seth Re, Dalton Re, Jaden Re, Landon Keefer, Emma Clark, Willow Keefer, six step-grandchildren; Tatum Hoffman, Tiaona Hoffman, Talen Hoffman, Tyce Hoffman, Addison Hoffman, Kaden Hoffman, two sisters; Martha Carey of Gettysburg, PA, Cathy Lawrence of Dillsburg, PA and a brother, Robert Keefer, Sr. of Gettysburg, PA and a step-sister, Kathleen Small of Bonneauville, PA.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
