
Obituary for James E. Arter, Jr. "J.R."
James Edward Arter, Jr. “J.R.”, 29, of Biglerville, PA died suddenly and unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home.
Born January 23, 1988 in Gettysburg, PA he was the son of James E. and Crystal L. (McCoy) Arter, Sr. of Orrtanna, PA. He was the husband of Jessica E. (Mahan) Arter, of Biglerville, PA to whom he married on August 27, 2016, and the loving father of his daughter, Payton Mae Arter.
J.R. worked as a Loudoun County, Virginia Firefighter. He started his firefighting career at the age of 14 with the Buchanan Valley Fire Department where he rose to rank of Captain. In his youth he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 162 in Cashtown and went on to earn the Order of the Arrow and his Eagle Scout award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a huge football fan, especially the Texas Longhorns.
In addition to his wife, daughter, and parents, J.R. is survived by his sister, Christina Arter and her sons Brayden and Jace, of Orrtanna, PA, his maternal grandmother, Gloria Adams, of Shippensburg, PA, his paternal grandmother, Dallie Stoddard, of Alabama, his sister-in-law Katherine Spence and her husband William, of Centreville, VA and their children, Cameron, Ethan, Aaron, and Grayson.
Funeral services will be held, 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Robert Mentzer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the services Saturday morning at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com.
