Obituary for Kenneth E. Kepner
Kenneth E. Kepner. 77, of Fairfield, PA passed away peacefully Saturday evening, February 20, 2016 at the Gettysburg Hospital, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Born March 22, 1938 in Orrtanna, PA he was the son of the late Mervin and Nettie (Tressler) Kepner. He was the husband of Freda A. (Myers) Kepner of Fairfield to whom he was married to for 45 years.
Mr. Kepner was a Veteran of the United States Army serving from 1955-1978 where, during his enlistment, he was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC, Ft Hamilton, NY, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Germany, and Thailand. He was active duty during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his Army retirement in 1978, he continued his work in the civilian field as a diesel mechanic at Ft. Ritchie and Site R for 17 years until retiring in 1995. He was a lifetime member and very involved in the Fairfield Fire Company, serving several years on the board of directors, as well as active in firefighting, until his decline in health in 2013. He was also a life member of the Fairfield Amvets Post 172.
In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his two daughters, Karen (Naugle) Rock and her husband Joe, of Waynesboro, PA, Shane (Kepner) Grinder and her husband Joel, of Fairfield, PA, five grandchildren, Brandon, Jared, and Casey Rock, all of Waynesboro, PA and Brookelynn and Ashlynn Grinder, of Fairfeld, PA, one great granddaughter, Emily Naugle, of Waynesboro, PA and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his five siblings, Ray Kepner, Robert Kepner, Betty Bollinger, Ruth (Skip) McDannell, and Harry Kepner.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Fairfield Fire Hall 106 Steelman St., Fairfield, PA with Pastor Ron Parr officiating. Burial with full military honors being presented by the Adams County Allied Veterans will be in the Fairfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the service Thursday at the fire hall. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fairfield Fire Company.
